B12 is key vitamin in keeping us mentally sharp as we age, scientists confirm"

Another excellent news item from the 'What Doctors Dont Tell You' Team

Scientists have this week confirmed (Sept 2011) that B12 is the vital vitamin we all need if we are going to stay mentally sharp into old age.
Low levels of the vitamin in the blood can lead to brain shrinkage and cause cognitive problems, such as memory loss and slower thinking, say researchers from the Rush University Medical Center.
They made the discovery when they analysed blood samples of 121 elderly residents in Chicago.  They found that those with the lowest levels of the vitamin in their blood also had brain shrinkage and other damage, according to MRI scans.
You can increase your B12 levels by taking a supplement daily, or regularly eating fish, meat – especially liver – milk, eggs and poultry.

The ‘Parabens are Safe’ Myth

You won’t find parabens at Neal’s Yard Remedies.
Parabens are very cheap synthetic preservatives commonly used
to prevent fungal growth in cosmetics. But are they really harmless?
Companies are eager to tell you that parabens are safe and natural
and can be found in blueberries and other foods. This is not true.
Parabens are synthetic chemicals produced in a lab.

Some plants do contain a similar substance p-hydroxybenzoic acid,
a water-soluble chemical that is easily excreted by the body.
Synthetic parabens are fat-soluble so are more easily absorbed and more
likely to accumulate in fatty tissue, for instance in the breast.
Parabens have been found in samples of breast tumour tissue.

Parabens can cause allergic reactions and they have an estrogenic effect –
it is possible they could contribute to hormonal imbalances linked to disease.
Estrogenic chemicals are difficult to remove from water supplies so they
end up in our drinking water.
Studies show that parabens can be detected in 97% of the US population.
Washed down the drain they have been associated with turning male
fish into females.

All Neal’s Yard Remedies products are formulated so they need minimal
preservatives. We use natural ingredients with preservative properties, such as rose
or propolis extract - our Baby Balm and White Tea Toning Eye Gel
are preservative-free.
In some cases we use small amounts of preservatives that we know are safe. But
we’ll never use anything that could be harmful to you or to the environment.

NOTE: The Danish government has banned parabens in products for children. We’re not
waiting for any government! We always follow the Precautionary Principle -

if in doubt leave it out.

Neal's Yard Products : Why Organic?

Pesticides are poisoning bees, while the loss of
habitat and wild flowers is starving them to death
The intensification of industrialised farming, lack of hedgerows and wild flowers, and an increase in mono-crops has converted our countryside into an arable desert.

Experts have warned that honeybees could
disappear entirely from Britain by 2018
Without bees and wild pollinators, agriculture as we know it would collapse: they’re responsible for pollinating 84% of EU crops.
In China, many communities are now forced to hand pollinate crops – increasing their cost by 8 times.
Losing our pollinators could cost British agriculture up to £440 million per year. In addition to agriculture, our entire eco-system would be devastated, taking the bird and mammal population with it.

Organic farming is based on a system that works
with nature, rather than against it
Genetically modified crops are banned and pesticides are avoided. Instead, organic farming focuses on natural ecosystems and native species, even ensuring they have wild spaces in field margins and hedgerows –  providing a diversity of flowers and habitats for bees.

Biodiversity, in terms of a wide range of plants, insects and animals, is key to organic farming
Each plant or animal has a specific role in the life of the farm, and this is especially true of the bee, which plays a    crucial role in pollinating fruit and vegetables.
Red clover for instance, is used extensively in rotational  farming to help maintain soil fertility, avoiding the use of chemical fertilisers.
In addition, it is one of the bumblebee’s favourite foods – its traditional name ‘Bee Bread’ says it all!

As an independent consultant for Neal’s Yard Organics you will be supporting organic  farmers  and more importantly helping to save bees.

Remember, Every Neal’s Yard product used is a synthetic product left on the shelf.
